About the Hooksett NH Community

Originally known as Chester Woods and later Rowe’s Corner, this part of Merrimack County became known as Hooksett around 1772. However, it wasn’t officially incorporated until 1822. The town’s name likely comes from a hook-shaped island in the Merrimack River — an area once dubbed “Hookline Falls” by local fishermen.

Like much of New Hampshire, Hooksett offers abundant outdoor recreation. Residents and visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, camping, and cycling right in town. Just a short drive away in Manchester, the McIntyre Ski Area provides opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, tubing, lessons, and dining.
