It’s hard to beat an after-school program that teaches kids at a young age about working hard, achieving goals, and giving back to their community. That’s why we support Girls on the Run. This organization started in 1996 with 13 girls, and now has over 700,000 girls worldwide whose lives have been changed through the principles taught in their programs.
The third to fifth graders in the Exeter, New Hampshire council of Girls on the Run took a vote on what community service project they would like to do at the end of the school year, and decided on cleaning up the planting beds at Weston Elementary School on the east side of Manchester.
As much as I would like to say that Giant Landscaping worked shoulder to shoulder with these enthusiastic youngsters on the Weston School project – pulling weeds and spreading bark mulch – I can’t. But we did donate 7 yards of mulch for the project.
What we have learned from this great organization is that everybody doing a little bit for their community can accomplish great things. And these third to fifth graders did a great job at the Weston Elementary School!
